This program is for Senior Nursing Students, Nurse Graduates, and new RNs applying for the Operating Room Nurse Residency Program starting Spring 2027. The ChristianaCare Nurse Residency Program is accredited with distinction by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation in Practice Transition Programs. Research shows that new nurses completing an accredited residency program experience increased competency, reduced errors, decreased stress, and higher job satisfaction. This program supports registered nurses with under one year of experience through a specialized track. The curriculum includes lecture, simulation, peer support, and preceptor-led clinical experiences focused on critical thinking, evidence-based practice, collaboration, communication, quality, safety, and professional development. Nurse Residents will learn the fundamentals of surgery and the surgical patient experience. The 26-week program involves simulation, didactic, and clinical experience with experienced perioperative preceptors. Classes and simulation are held at the Christiana Campus, with clinical orientation in the Christiana Hospital or Wilmington Hospital Operating Room. Following the 26-week program, residency meetings will continue at months 8, 10, and 12 to support professional growth. Nurse residents must pass State Boards and be licensed as an RN in Delaware (or a compact state) before starting. A commitment agreement to work at ChristianaCare for two years, with 15 months on the unit of hire, is required upon hire. Failure to meet this commitment will result in a $10,000 charge.
