About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner (NP), under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site Physicians, provides a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients in accordance with established policies and state guidelines. The NP documents services for the Site Medical Director or designee to support monitoring of clinical services, communicates scheduling changes to the Medical Director and Health Services Administrator (H.S.A.), and arranges coverage when unavailable for an extended period.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Advanced degree from an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
• Current Nurse Practitioner licensure in the state of employment, maintained throughout employment.
• Current CPR certification, maintained throughout employment.
• Patience and tact in working with the inmate patient population and the ability to work effectively in a corrections environment.
• Scheduling flexibility to rotate hours and shifts if needed and to provide coverage during emergency situations.

Nice To Haves

• Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience.
• Corrections experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical care to inmates, including conducting examinations, chronic care clinics, and infirmary rounds.
• Maintain accurate, legible progress notes in SOAP format and follow formulary guidelines.
• Respond to emergencies and make logical decisions regarding non-formulary medications or off-site referrals.
• Follow existing policies and procedures for admission, transfer, and specialty consultant referrals.
• Maintain confidentiality and provide input to facility committees as requested.
• Communicate scheduling changes to the Medical Director and H.S.A., and arrange medical-service coverage when unavailable for an extended period.
