About The Position
The Emergency Department Family Nurse Practitioner assesses patients’ physical and psychosocial status through interviews, health histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic tests. The Nurse Practitioner distinguishes emergent from non-emergent cases, interprets data, develops and implements therapeutic plans, and follows through with patient care. The role includes planning, providing, and documenting care and education with patients, family members, or others to support optimal health and continuity of care. The Nurse Practitioner transfers patients appropriately to a higher level of care and collaborates with UMMC Telemed Physicians and other health professionals to provide quality care.
Requirements
- Current license with the Mississippi State Board of Nursing.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing.
- BLS certification.
- ACLS certification.
- PALS certification.
- Telemed certification through UMMC.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion.
- Ability to maintain highly confidential information.
Responsibilities
- Prescribe medication, examine patients, diagnose illnesses, and provide treatment.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests.
- Gather health histories and perform physical examinations and diagnostic procedures.
- Develop and implement treatment plans.
- Dictate and document all patient interactions.
- Notify the managing physician about unusual or unexpected events or problems.
- Effectively communicate with diverse populations, including physicians, employees, patients, and families.
- Assess patients’ physical and psychosocial status and distinguish emergent from non-emergent cases.
- Plan, provide, and document patient care and education to support optimal health and continuity of care.
- Transfer patients appropriately to a higher level of care.
- Collaborate with UMMC Telemed Physicians and other health professionals as needed.
