Provides inpatient hospital care to neonates, including health surveillance, assessment, and intervention to diagnose and treat illness or disease (acute or chronic, physical, psychosocial, or behavioral). The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner collaborates with a supervising physician to assess and diagnose patients, formulate treatment plans, prescribe medication, order and interpret laboratory tests, provide patient education, prepare medical records, and refer patients as needed. Responsibilities include attending high-risk deliveries, providing initial resuscitation for neonates, performing physical examinations, and antenatal counseling. The role also involves performing a complete neonatal physical examination and assessment, distinguishing between normal and abnormal findings, eliciting, recording, and interpreting health histories, writing admission, discharge, and medication orders (with co-signatures), performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and formulating and implementing care plans. Consultation with attending or Resident Physicians is required before major procedures or plans. The position may involve attending Labor & Delivery for consults, vaginal deliveries, and C-sections. The Nurse Practitioner must remain current with all licensure, certifications, and mandatory compliances and trainings, and adhere to institutional policies and values. Bilingual competence in English and Spanish is desired.
