About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) Urgent Care is a licensed, certified healthcare provider. They provide direct patient care and have prescriptive authority. They are credentialed, privileged, and billed as an independent provider by Medicare and Medicaid. The Advanced Practice Provider offers medical care based on the supervising physician's scope of practice. They typically care for patients in urgent or convenient care clinics. This role is with a well-established Baylor Scott & White Urgent Care clinic in the desirable Bee Cave/Austin area. The practice is high-volume and fast-paced, averaging 24-30 patients per shift. The role involves a variety of clinical responsibilities including evaluating and treating new and established patients, same-day acute care visits, follow-up appointments, and individual/shared in-basket management. The schedule is rotating, with a combination of weekday 8:00 AM–8:00 PM shifts and weekend 9:00 AM–5:00 PM coverage. There are no call responsibilities. The position offers structured onboarding and mentorship led by experienced APP leadership, including organized training schedules, PEP visits, learning modules, and peer mentorship. The practice is quality-focused with monthly quality assurance collaboration with supervising physicians.

Requirements

  • Texas RN licensure or RN licensure with compact privilege from a state in the Nurse Licensure Compact for RNs and LVNs, and Texas APRN.
  • Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the state of Texas
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer
  • Certification from an accredited board as an APRN for the patient population of focus required
  • Grad of an Accredited Program
  • Less than 1 Year of Experience

  • Basic Life Support (BLS): Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and treat new and established patients
  • Handle same-day acute care visits
  • Manage follow-up appointments
  • Perform individual and shared in-basket management
  • Assess the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories.
  • Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
  • Prescribe or recommend medical drug therapies or other treatments. Perform procedures following approved policies, focusing on efficacy, safety, and cost. Recommend interventions to change behavior linked to health risks.
  • Formulate and implement patient treatment plans based on assessments and evidence-based medicine. Collaborate with physicians and team members when needed. Evaluate patient's response to care and its effectiveness.
  • Counsel patients and families on medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion. Counsel patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with food supplements, over-the-counter medications, and herbal remedies.
  • Maintain appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes.
  • Initiate timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice or expertise.
  • Provide consultation level services for conditions/problems related to the Provider’s specialty and training.
  • Perform invasive procedures specific to scope of practice and provider’s level of expertise as delegated by supervising Physician.
  • May be required to perform patient care duties beyond regular schedule based on coverage needs of the department.
