About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner RN(NP) is an advanced practice nurse with knowledge and skills gained through additional education and experience. The Nurse Practitioner blends an in-depth knowledge of nursing with the legal authority and autonomy to order diagnostic tests, prescribe pharmaceuticals and perform specific procedures in the management and treatment of common acute illnesses and stable chronic conditions. The RN(NP) practices within a framework of evidence-based primary care, holism, health promotion, and disease and injury prevention. The practice involves building partnerships with individuals, families, and communities. This includes community needs assessments; supporting inter-professional collaboration; and participating in continuous improvements through evaluative processes/projects.

Requirements

  • Master of Nursing - Nurse Practitioner (MN-NP)
  • 3 years' experience as an RN in an acute care setting
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Level C Certificate (BCLS)
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license
  • Registered/eligible for registration with the CRNS as RN (NP)

  • Knowledge of facilitation strategies
  • Therapeutic intervention skills working relevant to practice of the RN(NP) role
  • Knowledge of assessment/diagnosis/treatment of common illnesses/chronic diseases
  • Ability to implement holistic, comprehensive care to individuals/groups/families
  • Demonstrates empathy, trust and respect in the provision of care
  • Knowledge in conflict resolution techniques
  • Knowledge in leadership strategies
