Critical Care MICU – Nurse Practitioner – Per Diem
About The Position
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at RGH provides expert clinical care for critically ill patients. The APP will work in collaboration with ICU physicians, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), nursing staff, and other multidisciplinary team members to deliver comprehensive care. This role focuses on patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and implementation of interventions, along with continuous monitoring of patient progress in a high-acuity environment. This role offers a high level of clinical autonomy and decision-making, extensive procedural opportunities, and a collaborative multidisciplinary environment. Rotations include Medical ICU, Procedure Service (ICU consults, line placement, IV access), and Pulmonary Consult Service (tracheostomy and ventilator management).
Requirements
- MS: Nursing (Required)
- NP - Nurse Practitioner Certification - NYS Office of Professions
- RN - Registered Nurse - NYS Office of Professions
Nice To Haves
- 3 years working as an Advanced Practice Provider preferred
- ICU/Critical Care or Hospital Medicine experience preferred
- Proficiency in invasive procedures commonly performed in the ICU including Central Venous Catheter and Arterial Catheter placement, Hemodialysis Catheter Placement, Ventilator Management, Thoracentesis, Paracentesis, Lumbar Puncture, Chest Tube placement, and Endotracheal Intubation is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively.
Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose, and manage critically ill patients
- Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with the ICU team
- Manage ventilators, vasoactive medications, and advanced ICU therapies
- Perform bedside procedures as credentialed
- Participate in daily rounds and multidisciplinary care planning
- Educate patients, families, and clinical team members
