About The Position

Reporting to the Manager of Primary Health, the Nurse Practitioner will provide clinical support related to high-risk behaviors of the population. This role involves chronic disease management and treatment of common medical problems for individuals facing significant barriers to accessing healthcare. The Nurse Practitioner will also support referrals to other health services as needed. The work reflects an understanding of the determinants of health influencing the core neighborhoods and involves collaboration with various health care, community, and intersectoral partners such as Public Health and the Department of Social Work to improve the health of citizens in Saskatoon's core neighborhoods. The position requires an increased understanding and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and its effects on health care delivery, and the capacity to engage people in health-enhancing education, activities, and services.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years advanced RN (NP) in applicable area
  • Three (3) years full-time experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license
  • Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)
  • Registered/eligible for registration with the CRNS as RN (NP)
  • Registered/eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)

  • Basic - Communication skills to provide/obtain verbal and/or written opinions/advice
  • Basic - Critical thinking skills

  • Ability to provide holistic care to individuals, families & the community
  • Demonstrates clinical/health assessment, diagnostic, pharmacotherapeutic
  • Knowledge of addictions interventions involving drugs, alcohol or tobacco
  • Demonstrates educational skills & strategies produce positive healthy outcomes
  • Knowledge in assessment, treatment and education related to sexual health
  • Demonstrates leadership, confidence and autonomy in the RN(NP) role
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Demonstrates capacity for visioning, goal setting and utilizing change theory
  • Demonstrates capacity to work closely with multiple physicians
  • Therapeutic intervention skills working relevant to practice of the RN(NP) role
