About The Position

Working interdependently with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers, provides a broad range of nurse practitioner services following established policies and protocols. This role involves assessing, managing, and treating breast conditions, interpreting medical imagery and pathology, and performing genetic testing and counseling. The Nurse Practitioner will develop and implement plans of care, provide patient and family education and support, and perform routine office-based procedures. Strong documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic healthcare environment.

• Completion of an accredited nurse practitioner program
• Graduate from an accredited school.
• Current NJ state NP license and CPR certification.
• DEA licensure in NJ.

Responsibilities

• Provides services to patients including but not limited to ambulatory care, taking health histories, risk assessment and cancer screening, performing assessments, diagnosis, and conducting health education and counseling.
• Assess, manage and treat acute, chronic, benign, and malignant breast conditions. Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status.
• Interpret breast imagery (ultrasound, mammogram, MRI) collaboratively with breast radiologist.
• Interpret breast pathology collaboratively with breast surgeon.
• Perform genetic testing based on NCCN guidelines, interpreting common testing results, and conducting counseling based on results.
• Develops plans of care based on patient assessment ensuring appropriate follow-up in accordance with established nurse practitioner protocols.
• Provides teaching and emotional support to patients and families.
• Refers patients for further care based on severity of illness and symptoms/response to treatments tried.
• Utilizes written guidelines/protocol for clinical decision making and management.
• Prescribes medication appropriate to breast care management. Will need current DEA and CDS licensure.
• Routine office-based procedures: venipuncture, IV insertion, punch biopsies, post-operative care, suture removal and wound care.
• Prepares timely, legible, and complete documentation of all patient care as provided by law, regulation, and established policy
• Demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity to patient/family rights.
• Applies safety principles as identified by established policy.
• Participates in continuing education to continually improve skills and abilities and stay abreast of current technologies/practices.
• Ensures compliance with legal issues including but not limited to patient confidentiality and risk management; federal, state, and local regulations.
• Participates in quality improvement and utilization review activities.
• Exhibits a high degree of courtesy, tact and poise when interacting with office staff, patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
• Adjusts to fluctuating peaks in patient flow, acuity, and other operational demands while maintaining quality.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
