About The Position

Salt Lake Behavioral Health is seeking a talented Nurse Practitioner (NP) for a Full-Time position on the Critical Stabilization and Adult Units. Our mission is to transform lives through exceptional patient care. Salt Lake Behavioral Health is a private 118-bed freestanding psychiatric hospital, located in Salt Lake City, specializing in mental health and substance abuse treatment for adults. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides advanced practice nursing services to patients admitted to the inpatient behavioral health hospital. Working collaboratively with Psychiatrists, Physician Assistants, and the interdisciplinary treatment team, the NP conducts psychiatric assessments, diagnoses mental health conditions, develops and implements treatment plans, and manages psychotropic medications within the scope of licensure and privileging. The NP supports safe, evidence-based, and patient-centered care in compliance with medical staff bylaws, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice in the State of Utah as a DNP Nurse Practitioner or APRN.
  • If medication privileges are exercised, prescriptive authority from the Board of Medical Examiners is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate as a DNP Nurse Practitioner or Master’s Degree as an APRN and completion of a post graduate program for psychiatric mental health nursing.
  • Preferably two or more years experience within a psychiatric setting.
  • A minimum of two (2) years experience in working with in an inpatient setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and mental status examinations.
  • Evaluate presenting symptoms, risk factors, and clinical history.
  • Develop, implement, and update individualized treatment plans.
  • Coordinate care with the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications within scope of practice.
  • Monitor therapeutic response, side effects, and medication compliance.
  • Collaborate with Psychiatrists and Medical Director on complex cases.
  • Support continuity and consistency of medical treatment.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and clinical case reviews.
  • Provide clinical input to support treatment decisions and patient progress.
  • Respond to psychiatric emergencies and provide stabilization support.
  • Assist with risk management and safety planning interventions.
  • Document clinical services accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.
  • Ensure documentation meets regulatory, legal, and medical staff standards.
  • Communicate treatment plans, medication changes, and progress with patients and families.
  • Provide education related to diagnosis, medications, and recovery.
  • Support discharge planning and coordination of follow-up services.
  • Promote continuity of treatment and outpatient transition planning.
