This position works under the general direction of the institutional Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and may be required to work at more than one institution. The Nurse Practitioner will monitor patient progress, intervene in chronic illnesses, administer immunizations and vaccinations, prescribe medications, treat acute and chronically ill patients, and perform minor surgeries as training and competency allow. They will also perform routine physical exams, diagnose new conditions, evaluate patients for specialty referrals, order and review diagnostic tests, and facilitate medical reclassifications and non-formulary medication requests. The role involves providing routine and emergency medical care to inmate patients, conducting infirmary rounds, documenting patient information according to guidelines, cooperating with medical quality oversight, and attending various institutional and statewide medical meetings. Additionally, the position may involve taking outpatient calls.
