The Nurse Practitioner provides high quality advanced nursing care in accordance with professional regulatory standards and within the scope of the nurse practitioner license. This role provides multidisciplinary care, including patient evaluations and assessments, patient education, interventions, and documentation of the plan of care. The Nurse Practitioner requests physician consultations and multidisciplinary consults, recognizes ethical/legal/medical dilemmas, and confers with appropriate resources when making ethical decisions. The role may involve working as an independent provider or under indirect physician supervision, and may see patients of all age populations. Depending on the specific area, work hours may vary, including weekends and holidays, and may require on-call time. Privileges granted by the Medical Staff Department can include arranging patient admissions and transfers, performing and dictating exams, histories, and physicals, rounding on assigned patients, writing progress notes with a plan of care, and dictating discharge summaries. The Nurse Practitioner may also furnish non-narcotic medications and durable medical equipment (DME), controlled substances III, IV, V with appropriate licensure/certification, and controlled substances II with appropriate licensure/certification. They may order blood products, laboratory tests, radiological, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and neurological studies, oxygen therapy, respiratory treatments, and pulmonary tests. Additionally, the Nurse Practitioner may perform drain and suture removal, and order and administer medications and IV therapy with the ability to assess and adjust dosing. Other duties as assigned.
