About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner provides medical, diagnostic and treatment services for child or adult consumer population in collaboration with agency psychiatrists. Work is performed under general supervision and is guided by policies and procedures, quality assurance, public and private payor guidelines, diagnostic guidelines and professional practices and including ethical standards related to client interactions, state and federal licensure and accreditation regulations and guidelines. This is a grant-based position that may terminate with the ending of funding for the grant.

Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing/PMHNP from an accredited college/university.
  • 5 years of progressively responsible experience providing psychiatric care to individuals with a mental health diagnosis; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to drive.
  • Knowledge of database systems and software, as well as the best practices for effective utilization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical, diagnostic and treatment services for child or adult consumer population in collaboration with agency psychiatrists.
  • Administer psychotropic medication.
  • Conduct individual therapy, counseling practices and risk assessment for the mentally ill.
  • Manage individuals according to Virginia guidelines.
  • Adhere to laws and legal procedures relating to hospital admission.
  • Utilize community resources, hospitalization options, treatment providers and other agencies serving the mentally ill population.
  • Establish and maintain rapport with the individual population.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff and with private and public community partners, physicians, subordinates and others.
  • Function calmly in stressful, if not crisis situations.
  • Risk assess and prioritize service demands.
  • Prepare and maintain patient medical records and prepare reports in compliance with licensure regulations.
  • Conduct effective interviews, observe, assess and record individual behaviors and functioning and develop treatment and service plans.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Provide expert testimony in both oral and written formats.
  • Drive and possess a valid driver's license.
  • Travel to any Horizon worksite, transport clients, and provide services to clients at other locations.
  • Attend training and Horizon meetings which may require travel to various Horizon sites.
  • Work in and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
  • Participate in and successfully pass behavioral intervention training, including verbal de-escalation skills and physical skills techniques.
