About The Position

Thompson was founded in 1886 as an orphanage and has grown into an organization operating across the Carolinas, Florida Tennessee and Kentucky. Thompson’s continuum of care encompasses three domains: prevention, mental health services and foster care. All Thompson programs are trauma-informed and evidence-based/evidence-informed with the intention of building resilience in our clients (ages 0-18) and their families, both virtually and in person. The Nurse Practitioner provides client medical and/or psychiatric treatment services in consultation with and supervision from the supervising Medical Director/Psychiatrist, and/or other care providers to ensure client medical and/or psychiatric needs are met in accordance with the treatment plan and agency policies and procedures. As a Nurse Practitioner you will work a part time schedule, 10-20 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Must have valid Driver’s License.
  • Meet any credentialing, licensing and privileging standards as it pertains to the program(s) they lead.
  • Must be eligible for licensure by and in good standing with North Carolina Boards of Nursing and Medicine.
  • Must maintain training and standards required to retain NC Family Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner License.
  • Must maintain documentation of supervision as required by the NC Boards of Nursing and Medicine.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the diagnostic process by evaluating clients with a concentration on past medical and psychiatric history, current physical and psychiatric status, and the agency’s ability to provide medical and psychiatric needs while in placement.
  • Provide and document appropriate residential medical care, including but not limited to: Compile medical history. Admission/annual physical examinations, Management of acute and chronic illnesses, Orders for speech or occupational therapy. Ensuring immunizations are up to date, providing orders for vaccines when lapsed. Order and oversee processing of laboratory studies as medically indicated. Referrals for off-campus healthcare as needed. Provide orders for restrictive interventions and assess consumers following restrictive interventions as per TCFF policy and procedures. Provide orders for self-harm watches as per TCFF policy and procedure.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director in the coordination between MH/SA services being delivered with primary physical or psychiatric healthcare providers.
