Under the limited direction of the attending physician or designee, obtains and records patient’s medical history; performs physical examinations; orders, evaluates and monitors medical and laboratory diagnostic tests and treatment plans. Prepares, develops and initiates treatment plans in consultation with attending physician; performs routine invasive procedures; performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Educates and counsels patient and family members on condition, desired results of treatment plans, expectations during illness and recovery, and other related areas. Participates in the management of patient's care, determining need for consultation to ensure the continuity and quality of care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Acute Care, Adult Primary Care, or Family Nurse Practitioner program, with ANCC or AANP certification.
  • Registered Nurse licensure to practice in State of Michigan
  • Master’s degree in nursing with clinical specialization
  • Must possess an unrestricted license to practice in the State of Michigan, including Registered Nurse and Nurse Prescriber authorization, and an unrestricted DEA registration for each practice location.
  • High level of interpersonal skills, written and verbal, necessary to effectively communicate, establish, and maintain productive working relationships with people inside and outside the Department and/or practice.
  • Excellent analytical ability necessary to independently identify and resolve extremely complex and unusual problems or discrepancies.
  • Clinical knowledge to meet the medical requirements relating to various procedures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding patients, personnel and/or financial data.
  • Patient management skills necessary to provide quality care.
  • Analytical ability to monitor data, develop treatment plans and prescribe medications.
  • Independent judgment to monitor and respond to changes in patient conditions.
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team to promote disease prevention and control.
  • Ability to work comfortably with a diverse patient population
  • Compliance with Department Health and Safety policies and procedures, and with those of the DMC (where applicable) and Wayne Health.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of professional experience in an acute setting, preferred.
  • Active BCLS certification
  • Supervisory experience and ACLS are preferred
  • Knowledge of OSHA, MIOSHA, JACHO and HIPAA regulations

Responsibilities

  • Obtains and records complete medical history and exam of patients in the electronic medical record.
  • Maintains and enhances expertise through appropriate educational and organizational activities.
  • Diagnose active Tuberculosis vs latent TB
  • Order and interpret TB test (AFB smear/cultures, NAAT/PCR, IGRA/TST, chest imaging)
  • Start and manage TB regimens for latent TB, active TB and drug-resistant TB
  • Monitor for TB medicine side effect: Hepatoxicity, Drug interactions, adherence
  • Public health coordination, coordinating with clinic DIS and oversee directly observed therapy, contact investigation, outbreak control, working with MDHHS, report cases to surveillance system (MDSS, EDN), processing referrals through EDN
  • Manage co infections with TB, i.e.. HIV and other opportunistic infections
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
