About The Position

One of a network of provincial community health centres, the NorWest Community Health Centres is a community based, non-profit organization funded by Ontario Health, emphasizing access to primary health care and prevention programs and services. We are currently seeking a casual Nurse Practitioner (Registered Nurse - Extended Class) RN-EC, who as a valuable member of the Community Health Centre team will provide services within the RN-EC scope of practice at the Thunder Bay site. There is a strong practice emphasis on disease prevention, health promotion, health education, harm reduction, and community partnerships. The position has a competitive salary and an option to join Health Care of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP).

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a recognized University.
  • Current registration in the (RN-EC) extended class from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • Nursing experience in a combination of remote, rural, hospital and community settings and/or public health.
  • Thorough knowledge and proficiency in current extended class nursing procedures, physical assessment and treatment measures within the RN-EC scope of practice.
  • Experience providing services within a walk-in clinic setting.
  • Experience in supporting individuals living with mental health and substance misuse challenges.
  • Awareness and sensitivity to socio-economic and cultural issues affecting the populations we serve.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to health issues particularly within populations who face barriers to accessing care (under housed, living with mental health illness or diagnoses, current or past substance use, complex health histories, 2SLGBTQIA+, newcomers, and non-insured).
  • Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of community-based health care.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills, organizational and interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively and respectfully in a collaborative, inter-professional team environment.
  • Flexibility in work hours is required and ability to work at different sites as required.
  • Awareness of northern community health care needs is essential.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interprofessional setting.
  • Experience and knowledge working with the Centre’s priority populations.
  • Valid driver’s license required and access to a vehicle.
  • Full Covid-19 vaccination verification required, subject to any contraindications that are medically supported.
