About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner’s primary responsibility will be to provide appropriate gastroenterology patient care in collaboration with the supervising/collaborating physicians. This will involve assessing and managing patients in the clinic as well as the inpatient setting according to established standards and practices.

Requirements

  • Registered Nursing license as well as degree level required by each state to obtain NP license.
  • Graduate of an accredited program and board certified with prescriptive authority.
  • Successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program with certification by a national Nurse Practitioner certification board.
  • Three (3) years professional nursing experience in a clinic or hospital setting.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification required.
  • Computer skills – good working knowledge of MS office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proven ability to manage time, meet deadlines and prioritize.
  • Able to maintain standards and professionalism during periods of fluctuating workloads.
  • Provide professional service to direct customers of One GI in all interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide first point of contact medical triage for patients in the hospital setting for: New inpatient consults, Inpatient follow-up visits, Weekend call coverage (as negotiated)
  • Provide care to patients in the following settings: Routine follow-up visits in the office, Urgent follow-up visits in the office, Urgent and provider requested consults and new patient visits, G-tube changes, Hemorrhoid banding (after training), Large volume paracentesis (as permitted)
  • Perform daily rounds on hospitalized patients (inpatient NP’s and specialized patient populations (ex. Hep C)
  • Communicate patient care activities to the physician (visit notes/test results).
  • Participate in clinical continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed.
  • Perform a physical exam and records findings.
  • Collaborate with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients.
  • Order appropriate medication, laboratory, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Administer medications and injections.
  • Interview and advise patients regarding health and illness prevention.
  • Recommend community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  • Instruct patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  • Provide patient education.
  • Maintain and review patient’s records, charts, and other pertinent information.
  • Triage patient telephone calls and provide consultation.
  • Provide monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.

  • Successfully completes all One GI training requirements (i.e. OSHA, HIPAA, HealthStream, compliance, etc.)
  • Responsible for compliance with all regulatory requirements and/or guidelines. These requirements/guidelines include, but are not limited to: OSHA, HIPAA, Federal Fraud and Abuse laws.
