About The Position

NaphCare is seeking a Full Time Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide comprehensive healthcare services to individuals incarcerated in the Washington County Jail in Hillsboro, Oregon. This role involves managing all aspects of healthcare within a correctional facility, working alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals. The position offers a unique opportunity to care for a diverse patient population with complex medical needs in a dynamic environment where security is paramount. The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients with various medical conditions, prescribing medications, and responding to emergencies.

Requirements

  • Advanced nursing education (Master's or Doctorate)
  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Must hold a current unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner in Oregon
  • Current DEA registration
  • An appropriate collaborative agreement with the on-site Physician
  • Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association required)
  • Be certified in a Board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening
  • Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work independently and in a team
  • Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.

  • Experience working in a correctional facility or acute care center is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Conducting physical examinations, developing treatment plans and monitoring patients
  • Managing acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.
  • Administering medications and providing instructions to patients
  • Monitoring and documenting patient health including vital signs, medical histories.
  • Providing direct patient care, triaging, assessing patient needs, developing care plans, and coordinating services.
  • Responding to medical emergencies, providing first aid, and ensuring timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities.
  • Educating patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.
  • Understanding and adhering to correctional facility security protocols, while working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals, to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
  • Maintaining accurate medical records, documenting treatment plans, and reporting any relevant information.
  • Conducting rounds, evaluating patients returning from off-site treatment
  • Admitting and discharging patients from the facility
