About The Position

The General Surgery Nurse Practitioner complements and assists the work of the attending faculty, surgical fellow, and surgical residents to provide integrative inpatient and outpatient care for the surgery services, which include acute care, gastrointestinal, bariatric, colorectal, hepatopancreatobiliary, surgical oncology, breast, plastic, and endocrine surgery. The General Surgery Nurse Practitioner serves as a high-level professional, whose activities span the full range of care of adult surgical patients, taking responsibility for the safe delivery of care under the supervision of attending physicians and residents. Full assumption of these responsibilities will follow a training period, during which time the General Surgery Nurse Practitioner will be monitored by a physician supervisor to determine that knowledge and skills have reached the appropriate level. The Nurse Practitioner will meet productivity expectations as set forth by the Section Chief of General Surgery, performing any duties related to patient care activities that are appropriate and clearly delineated.
