About The Position

Provides patient care under the supervision of the medical director and through collaboration with the medical staff, providing assessment, evaluation, and treatment to patients under ARNP licensure guidelines. This role involves participating in the formulation of patients' Master Treatment Plan, assessing physical and psychiatric health, and dictating/charting clinical observations and evaluations. The Nurse Practitioner will communicate with physicians and other staff to ensure quality care, participate in on-call responsibilities, and make recommendations for treatment. They will also contribute to performance improvement initiatives, maintain safe physical management skills, and attend required in-services. Documentation will reflect the nursing process, including patient and family education and discharge planning. The role requires developing individualized treatment plans with measurable goals, encouraging family involvement, and responding to educational needs. The Nurse Practitioner will incorporate the hospital's mission statement, respond to changing unit needs, and demonstrate an understanding of cost containment and hospital resource economy. Adherence to legal requirements, hospital policies, and medical staff bylaws is essential. Collaboration with other health team members, participation in new employee orientation, and acting as a preceptor are also key aspects. A professional demeanor, a positive attitude, and a commitment to continued education and professional growth are expected. The role requires incorporating service-specific knowledge (children, adolescent, sex offender, or dual diagnosis/chemical dependency) into daily activities, including assessing specific age groups and understanding psychotherapeutic issues and developmental tasks. Sound clinical knowledge of mental health and program-specific issues is necessary, along with the ability to prioritize patient needs and incorporate theories of family dynamics. Treatment plans should be developed using current practices, and the purposes of transitional hospitalization should be incorporated. Discharge planning must reflect an understanding of recovery as a lifelong process, incorporating recovery, support systems, home environment, and available resources. The Nurse Practitioner will accept additional responsibilities as needed and adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including attending safety trainings and reporting accidents immediately.

Requirements

Master’s of Nursing with Licensure as Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) in Kentucky.
Certification and experience in psychiatric nursing.
Demonstrate accurate physical, mental, emotional and spiritual assessment skills and ability to clearly communicate findings both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrate theoretical and practical knowledge of Standards of Nursing Practice and Care in all aspects of care provided.

Responsibilities

Participates in the formulation of patients’ Master Treatment Plan.
Assesses physical and psychiatric health of patient and formulates measures to meet patient’s needs.
Dictates and charts clinical observations, evaluations and treatment of patients in required time according to facility guidelines.
Communicates with physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and other staff as necessary to provide quality care for patients within appropriate guidelines.
Provides on call responsibilities on scheduled basis directed by of medical staff.
Makes recommendations, writes and dictates orders, and prescribes appropriate treatment.
Maximizes opportunities for quality care.
Contributes to and participates in Performance Improvement.
Maintains appropriate safe physical management skill requirements.
Attends required in-services and completes Staff Education Attendance Record.
Documentation reflects nursing process, including individualized education and discharge planning needs of the patient and family.

Assesses adolescents between the ages of 12 – 18 or children between the ages of 4 – 12 utilizing appropriate developmental and program specific issues (chemical dependency, sex offender, general psychiatric).
Has dynamic understanding of psychotherapeutic issues and developmental tasks specific to each age group, child or adolescent.
Possesses sound clinical knowledge of mental health and program specific issues.
Understands and demonstrates the ability to prioritize the patient’s needs in relation to the presenting problem.
Understands and incorporates theories of family dynamics in patient’s treatment and family therapy.
Develops treatment plans using the most recent treatment practices in each treatment area.
Understands the distinct purposes of transitional hospitalization treatment and specifically incorporates these purposes in the patient’s treatment plan.
Incorporates the daily return of the transitional hospitalization in the daily or otherwise specified periodic goal-setting treatment plan in the specified intervention.
Discharge Planning: Reflects understanding of recovery as a life-long process.
Incorporates recovery and support system into the discharge plan.
Incorporates knowledge of home environment and available support/community resources.
Willingly accepts additional responsibilities outside routine job functions.

Clinical Assessment/ Interpretation (Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners Only): Neuropsychological Testing, Psychiatric Evaluations (General Data, Demographics, Chief Complaint, History of Present Illness, Past Outpatient and Inpatient Psychiatric History, Family Psychiatric History, Patient’s Alcohol and Drug history, Emotional, Physical, and Sexual Abuse History, Major Medical issues, Psychosocial History, Developmental History, Mental Status Exam, Medications, Preliminary Diagnostic Impression, Strengths and Weaknesses, Criteria for Admission, Anticipated Length of Stay, Recommendations and Treatment Plan, Preliminary Discharge Plans)
Clinical Treatment: Individual Psychotherapy, Group Psychotherapy, Family Psychotherapy, Crisis Intervention
