Nurse Practitioner
About The Position
NaphCare is hiring a Nurse Practitioner to join their team of medical professionals in North Alabama Community Work Center. This role involves managing all aspects of healthcare for incarcerated individuals. As a Correctional Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to the individuals in residence. Working within a controlled environment where security is a top priority and the days are never dull, you will have various duties to keep you engaged, including assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients with a range of medical conditions and chronic illnesses, prescribing medications, and responding to emergencies. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to a diverse population of patients with complex medical needs.
Requirements
- Advanced nursing education (Master's or Doctorate)
- Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner
- Must hold a current unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner in STATE
- Current DEA registration
- An appropriate collaborative agreement with the on-site Physician
- Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association preferred)
- Be certified in a Board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties
- Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Able to work independently and in a team
- Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening
Nice To Haves
- Experience working in a correctional facility or acute care center is a plus
- Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
Responsibilities
- Conducting physical examinations, developing treatment plans and monitoring patients
- Managing acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.
- Administering medications and providing instructions to patients
- Monitoring and documenting patient health including vital signs, medical histories.
- Providing direct patient care, triaging, assessing patient needs, developing care plans, and coordinating services.
- Responding to medical emergencies, providing first aid, and ensuring timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities.
- Educating patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.
- Understanding and adhering to correctional facility security protocols, while working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals, to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
- Maintaining accurate medical records, documenting treatment plans, and reporting any relevant information.
- Conducting rounds, evaluating patients returning from off-site treatment
- Admitting and discharging patients from the facility
