About The Position
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides specialized clinical care in the setting in which they practice. The NP performs physical examinations, collects and documents patient data, conducts approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, and provides direct patient care in accordance with established evidence-based clinical practice standards. The NP contributes to patient care, research, teaching, consulting, and leadership for the organization and the advanced practice profession. Duties may include obtaining patient health histories and conducting complete physical examinations; documenting pertinent normal and abnormal findings; ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests; and performing procedures within the specialty area as needed. The NP also helps facilitate safe and efficient patient flow throughout the continuum of care. As part of interprofessional teams, the NP communicates, plans, and implements care with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, pharmacists, office support staff, and other advanced practice providers. USC Care Medical Group is the physician entity reporting to the USC Health System, uniting faculty clinical practice under Keck Medicine of USC. It oversees clinical governance, physician and ambulatory services, and enterprise functions such as billing, contracting, and financial operations. The organization includes 17 clinical departments, approximately 1,500 physicians, and 2,000 staff, providing care across more than 80 locations from Kern County to Orange County and Las Vegas.
Responsibilities
- Perform physical examinations and obtain patient health histories.
- Collect and document patient data, including pertinent normal and abnormal findings.
- Conduct approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and perform procedures within the specialty area as needed.
- Order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations.
- Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests.
- Prescribe appropriate interventions and medications.
- Provide direct patient care according to established evidence-based clinical practice standards.
- Help facilitate safe and efficient patient flow through the continuum of care.
- Communicate, plan, and implement care with interprofessional colleagues, including physicians, pharmacists, office support staff, and other advanced practice providers.
- Contribute to research, teaching, consulting, and leadership for the organization and the advanced practice profession.
