The Critical Care Nurse Practitioner (CCNP) is a licensed nurse with advanced education, knowledge, clinical skills, and experience to provide expert advanced practice nursing in critical care. The primary responsibility is providing and directing care for patients in the adult ICUs at UCSF Medical Center, maintaining quality of care standards for all procedures and clinical care provided. The CCNP provides self-direction and accountability in the development of this role within the medical center. The CCNP shall provide medical and nursing care under the supervision of the Physician Director of Adult Critical Care Medicine and their individual collaborating physicians, in accordance with standardized procedures. The CCNP shall be proficient in arterial catheter insertion, central venous catheter insertion, ventilator management, sedation, and pain control. Medical Staff Office grants privileges to practice at UCSF Medical Center on a biannual basis. The CCNP may rotate through all focused care ICUs, including cardiothoracic, neurologic, neurosurgical, medical, general surgical, and transplant. The CCNP will collaborate with physician students, residents, fellows, and attending physicians, and will participate in precepting Advanced Practice Provider (APP) students and post-graduate fellows. This position is scheduled for 12-hour rotating shifts, including days, nights, holidays, and weekends. UCSF Medical Center requires all APPs to be credentialed through its Medical Staff Office to practice and function in their clinical role, which applies to all UCSF Medical Center sites and settings. This process may take up to 90 days and must be completed prior to the start date.
