About The Position

We are seeking a compassionate, qualified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our Duke Raleigh Malignant Hematology (in-patient) team. The ideal candidate has exceptional internal medicine skills and oncology experience. They will work with a multidisciplinary team providing direct patient care services. Requirements

  • Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Physician Assistant Certification
  • Nurse Practitioner Licensure and Certification
  • Licensed in the State of North Carolina
  • BLS required
  • ACLS preferred
  • Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to employment.
  • Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • 1+ years of APP experience required, oncology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis.
  • Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform through physical examinations.
  • Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, treatment toxicities.
  • Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-level clinical judgement including prescribing appropriate medications.
  • Chart patient progress maintaining detailed and accurate health records
  • Participate in clinical research projects and understand the importance of documentation of toxicities and data collection.
  • Communicate among multi-disciplinary teams to support patient care.
  • Collaborating, supporting and building strong relationships with supervising, back-up supervising physicians, APP colleagues, and team members.
  • Participate in education of patients, family members, new staff, students and other learners.
  • See scheduled and unscheduled patients.
  • Attend program required meetings.
  • Maintain up to date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME.
  • Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies.
  • Maintain institutional requirements for compliance.
  • Consult on and/or visit inpatients on an as needed basis.
  • Enter chemotherapy orders for outpatients and inpatients and forward to supervising physician for review / signing.
