About The Position

Corewell Health is seeking a Pediatric Hospital Medicine APP to join their established overnight team. This role is part of a collaborative group of APPs, physicians, and residents who provide comprehensive inpatient care for hospitalized children during the midnight shift. Responsibilities include admitting and discharging pediatric patients, performing clinical assessments, managing medications, conducting diagnostic evaluations, coordinating care with consulting services, and addressing overnight clinical needs. This position offers a consistent overnight schedule with rotating weekends. Providing pediatric-sensitive, developmentally appropriate care is central to this role. The ideal candidate will work independently and collaboratively to deliver high-quality pediatric care overnight.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Nursing OR a Masters in Physician Assistant studies
  • State of Michigan Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant license required
  • AHA/ARC BLS certification required
  • PALS is required
  • NRP is required

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of Inpatient Pediatric experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with diseases and adverse health conditions following the written guidelines approved by the department.
  • Admit and discharge pediatric patients.
  • Perform clinical assessments.
  • Manage medications.
  • Conduct diagnostic evaluations.
  • Coordinate care with consulting services.
  • Address overnight clinical needs.
  • Assess the physical and psychosocial status of clients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies.
  • Recognize deviations from normal in the physical assessment.
  • Work in collaboration with a physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems and follow-up.
  • Write prescriptions for medication, blood products based upon laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and post-discharge care in accordance with written practice protocols.
  • Determine eligibility of patients for entry into clinical trials based on findings.
  • Request written consultation from physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate and quality patient care.
  • Interpret and evaluate findings of studies/tests.
  • Relay appropriate information regarding patient care to the collaborating physician.
  • Administer therapeutic measures and obtain specimens as prescribed.
  • Evaluate the quality of care provided and recommend changes for improvement.
  • Initiate appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of the client.
  • Dictate follow-up letters to referring physicians with summaries of treatment, response, and plan.
  • Maintain provision of preventive health services (e.g. screening, risks assessment, immunizations, PAP smears, self-breast exam).
  • Dictate or write patient history, admissions, care plans, progress, and discharge notes.
  • Interact with program assistants and data managers for optimal patient care.
  • Assist in the management of family dynamics and coping mechanisms during acute and chronic phases of patient care.
  • Conduct or participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds and ensure appropriate and quality care for assigned patient.
  • Perform patient triage and determine the urgency of physician's evaluation.
  • Provide symptom management for side effects related to oncologic treatment.
