About The Position

The University of Michigan Health - Sparrow is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated NP/PA to join their new Same Day Access Clinic located in Okemos, Michigan. This clinic is committed to improving access to medical care across the Mid-Michigan region and delivers exceptional quality care in a diverse and family-friendly community. This is a Per Diem position with 8-hour day shifts, focused on outpatient care for patients aged 13 and older with minor acute illnesses and injuries.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Current Michigan license as an NP or PA.
  • Certification.
  • Demonstrated clinical knowledge and analytical abilities necessary to formulate nursing and medical interventions.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, their families, physicians, nurses, and other Health System Caregivers.
  • Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients serviced in the assigned service area.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work in an EMR environment.

Responsibilities

  • Providing assessment, evaluation, and treatment of patients in assigned Practice(s) under the delegated authority and supervision of physicians, within the scope of medical practice set forth by the State of Michigan and UMHP.
  • Performing physical examinations and operative/invasive procedures as outlined in a collaborative agreement with supervising physicians.
  • Diagnosing and treating simple injuries.
  • Consulting with physicians on complex cases.
  • Ordering routine laboratory and radiologic studies.
  • Performing/interpreting routine laboratory and diagnostic studies, EKGs, PFTs, and audiograms as outlined in the collaborative agreement.
  • Assessing patients and documenting care provided in the medical record.
  • Writing prescriptions and managing the care of assigned patients for physician review.
  • Collaborating with the health care team in planning and coordinating patient care.
  • Counseling patients regarding preventative health care and wellness.
  • Providing formal and informal education programs to practice staff and patients.
