About The Position

This position is for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) specializing in Primary Care at the Dayton VA Medical Center. The role involves providing comprehensive primary care services to veterans. The contract period is for a base year from August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027, with a potential for one option year extension. The standard clinic hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with no overtime or federal holiday coverage required. The NP/PA will contribute to the minimum of three providers on-site daily. Full-time employment is approximately 173 hours per month. Credentialing and onboarding are expected to take a minimum of 8-10 weeks.

Requirements

Copy of active, full, unrestricted NP or PA license — any U.S. state accepted
Current CV with complete education, training, and work history documenting 3+ years full-time primary care experience
Current BLS certification (AHA)
Current ACLS certification (AHA)

Copy DEA certificate copy
OIG/SAM exclusion list clearance confirmation with date of check
Current, full, unrestricted NP or PA license from any U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or D.C. — Ohio-specific license not required for NP/PA
BLS certification — AHA
ACLS certification — AHA
NP: Graduate of accredited Nurse Practitioner program with primary care focus (Family, Adult-Gerontology, or Internal Medicine).
PA: Graduate of ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program.
MINIMUM 3 years full-time comprehensive primary care experience required
License from any U.S. state accepted — Ohio-specific license not required for NP/PA
Patient volume: 9 patients/day standard, maximum 12 patients/day
Compliance with VA Medical Staff By-Laws, rules, and regulations
OIG/SAM exclusion list clearance required prior to submission

Responsibilities

Evaluation and treatment including ordering/interpreting diagnostic studies, lab, imaging, EKG, and medications within scope of practice
Discussion of end-of-life preferences and advanced care planning
Consultations with sub-specialists as appropriate and within scope of privileging
Social work referrals for all identified homeless veterans and patients without primary care providers
Core privileges per scope of practice and facility privileging determination
Complete EHR documentation with E&M and procedure codes by end of each patient care encounter
Report patient safety incidents within 24 hours via VA Patient Safety Reporting System
Participate in weekly team huddles, provider all calls, and monthly admin meetings
Maintain all required licensure, board certification, CME/CEU throughout the period of performance
Report CME/CEU hours to credentialing office for tracking and re-privileging annually
Complete all mandatory TMS training modules prior to first duty shift
Comply with HIPAA, VHA Privacy Directive, and VA Information Security requirements
