Requirements

• Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing (for Nurse Practitioners).
• Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program (for Physician Assistants).
• A Bachelor's degree required (for Physician Assistants).
• BLS required.
• Current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina (for Nurse Practitioners).
• National certification as a NP required (for Nurse Practitioners).
• Licensed in the state of NC (for Physician Assistants).
• Certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (for Physician Assistants).
• DEA license required.

Nice To Haves

• Orthopedics and Oncology work experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
• If a new graduate, Orthopedics and Oncology clinical rotations during your education program.
• Master's degree strongly preferred (for Physician Assistants).

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care services in collaboration with the attending physician for patients with bone metastasis as well as general orthopedic care.
• Augment a physician's ability to provide medical services to patients in the clinic.
• Provide care for patients with bone metastasis as well as general orthopedic care by assisting the physician in clinic as well as responsible and accountable for independent patient load/clinic.
• Coordinate patient care including triage, physical exams, collecting and documenting data, conducting diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and scheduling laboratory studies.
• May be involved in assisting with peri-operative workflow including scheduling, pre-ops, and post-op follow-up, diagnostic procedures and professional consultations, and prescribing appropriate interventions and medications.
• Communicate verbally and in writing all pertinent patient information to supervising physician, nursing staff, patient resource manager, home health agency, and other relevant healthcare providers.
• Provide timely documentation in the electronic medical record of all relevant data including results of diagnostic tests; laboratory results; patients’ condition and response to therapies/interventions; communications with physician colleagues.
• Respond to patient inquiries and concerns via telephone or EPIC MyChart messages and be accessible to consult with supervising physician as needed.
• Analyze clinical practice patterns so as to provide the best medical care and to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
