About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our healthcare team at a detention center in North Carolina. This full-time position involves providing primary care services to individuals within the detention center. The successful candidate must hold a valid North Carolina nurse practitioner or physician assistant license and demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare to a unique patient population.

Requirements

  • Current and unrestricted North Carolina Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) license.
  • National board certification as a Nurse Practitioner (e.g., ANCC, AANP) or Physician Assistant (e.g., NCCPA).
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to maintaining security protocols within a detention center.
  • Compassion, empathy, and cultural sensitivity in providing care to detainees.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in primary care, urgent care, or correctional healthcare is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with MAT (Medication Assisted Treatment) is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments and evaluations for residents in the detention center.
  • Diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical conditions, including infectious diseases and injuries.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, including medication management, follow-up care, and referrals to specialists as needed.
  • Provide preventive care, health education, and counseling to promote wellness and disease prevention.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team, including physicians, nurses, mental health professionals, and support staff, to ensure integrated and coordinated care.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records and documentation in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and policies governing healthcare delivery within a detention center environment.
  • Participate in health promotion and disease prevention programs within the detention center.
  • Provide emergency care and respond to medical emergencies as required.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to ethical and professional standards of practice
