About The Position

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will primarily support the Women’s Health/Gynecologic Oncology outpatient practice at William Beaumont University Hospital in Royal Oak. This position is primarily based in Royal Oak; however, the APP may be asked to provide coverage at additional practice locations including Troy, Dearborn, and potentially Farmington Hills in the future. This is a full-time, Monday through Friday position with standard clinic hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The APP will be expected to maintain medical staff privileges at all practice locations and hospitals to support cross-coverage needs. Responsibilities will include outpatient clinical care, care coordination, and occasional inpatient rounding as needed.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree Nursing with clinical specialization from an accredited institution (for Nurse Practitioner)
  • LIC-Nurse Practitioner (NP) - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required
  • LIC-Drug Enforcement Administration License - DEA Drug Enforcement Administration as required by position Upon Hire required
  • Bachelor's Degree Graduate of AMA recognized PA program that is accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for Physician Assistants and meet requirements of the state. (for Physician Assistant)
  • Completion of Physician Assistant program of study. Required
  • CRT-Physician Asst Certified (PA-C) - NCCPA National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants Upon Hire required
  • LIC-Physician Assistant - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required
  • LIC-Drug Enforcement Administration License - DEA Drug Enforcement Administration as required by position Upon Hire required

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Advanced Practice Provider experience in Gynecologic Oncology, Oncology, or Gynecology preferred
  • Experienced APP candidates strongly preferred
  • New graduate APPs will be considered if they possess prior RN experience in Gynecologic Oncology, Oncology, or Gynecology
  • Strong clinical, communication, and collaborative care skills
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association preferred
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of clients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies.
  • Recognizes deviations from normal in the physical assessment. Works in collaboration with a physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems and follow-up.
  • Writes prescriptions for medication, blood products based upon laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and post-discharge care in accordance with written practice protocols.
  • Determines eligibility of patients for entry into clinical trials based on findings.
  • Requests written consultation from physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate and quality patient care.
  • Interprets and evaluates findings of studies/tests.
  • Relays appropriate information regarding patient care to the collaborating physician.
  • Administers therapeutic measures and obtains specimens as prescribed.
  • Evaluates the quality of care provided and recommends changes for improvement.
  • Initiates appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of the client.
  • Dictates follow-up letters to referring physicians with summaries of treatment, response, and plan.
  • Maintains provision of preventive health services (e.g. screening, risks assessment, immunizations, PAP smears, self-breast exam).
  • Dictates or writes patient history, admissions, care plans, progress, and discharge notes.
  • Interacts with program assistants and data managers for optimal patient care.
  • Assists in the management of family dynamics and coping mechanisms during acute and chronic phases of patient care.
  • Conducts or participates in daily multidisciplinary rounds and ensures appropriate and quality care for assigned patient.
  • Performs patient triage and determines the urgency of physician's evaluation.
  • Provides symptom management for side effects related to oncologic treatment.
