The wound clinic advanced practice clinician (NP/PA) will coordinate and manage comprehensive wound care protocols for the Kelsey-Seybold patient population. The APC will work in the outpatient setting and manage the care of patients with wounds related to burn injury, prolonged pressure, venous stasis, systemic disease (diabetes, autoimmune) and chronic comorbidities. Clinical responsibilities will include patient management in the clinic, performing advance wound care procedures and coordinating care for the patients between the primary care, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, podiatric surgery, plastic surgery and the palliative care teams. The APC will serve patients in the North region Monday-Friday 8a-5p. No call or weekends.

Requirements

  • National Wound care certification (WOCNB, ABWM, WCEI)
  • Experience obtaining history and physical, formulating treatment plan, and educating patients and their families
  • The ability to facilitate and incorporate the full breadth of the advance practice training into the practice – from basic primary-care assessments to advanced wound care evaluation and treatment
  • Ability to provide recommendations for prescription of required medications, ointments, and dressings, as well as DME to facilitate wound healing
  • Knowledge of evidence-based proven effective wound care supplements and topical treatments
  • Knowledge of advanced wound care biologic treatments and skin substitutes
  • Skills related to wound debridement including sharp, mechanical, and hydro-debridement.
  • Experience with negative pressure wound therapy
  • BCLS

Responsibilities

  • Performs specific duties delineated by their supervising physician
  • Performs clinic encounters independent of the supervising physician
  • Coordinates comprehensive care for patients between supporting medical and diagnostic services
  • Performs wound checks wound dressing changes
  • Performs minor surgical procedures without in-room supervision including wound debridement, wound repair, injectable therapy, hydro-debridement, and application of skin substitutes
  • Participates in communication with the nurses and medical assistants in coordinating patient care, scheduling, and follow-up protocols
  • Provide guidance and oversight of nurse personnel, and medical assistants within the clinic performing wound care
  • Maintains appropriate CME hours and participate in a yearly wound care CME activity
