About The Position

This role involves assessing and managing behavioral health patients, providing psychiatric consultative services, and developing/managing a narcotic addiction program. The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will also play a leadership role in behavioral health-related emergencies in the Emergency Department and inpatient hospital settings. Responsibilities include performing advanced diagnostic assessments, summarizing clinical findings, providing case management, responding to psychiatric crises, and applying knowledge of psychopharmacology and addiction medicine. The position also requires adherence to policies, maintaining patient rights, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Master of Science in Nursing or higher (for Nurse Practitioner)
Masters from a program accredited by the ARC-PA (for Physician Assistant)
Currently licensed as a Certified Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (for Nurse Practitioner)
Currently licensed as a Physician’s Assistant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (for Physician Assistant)
Minimum of one year of experience
Completion of an approved De-escalation Certification Course (obtain within 30 days, offered within)
Basic Life Support certification (obtain within 30 days, offered within)
US Department of Justice DEA Registration (required if prescribing)

Responsibilities

Responds to psychiatric emergencies utilizing training in management of aggressive behaviors.
Provides psychoeducational and medication instruction(s) to patients and families, documenting appropriately.
Acts as patient advocate and informs patients and families of available community and government resources.
Establishes and maintains good rapport and working relationships with colleagues in various settings.
Serves as a psychiatric clinical resource and acts as a liaison between other programs and providers.
Participates in quality improvement initiatives, utilization management activities, clinical and administrative staff meetings, and assigned committees.
Participates in training and development activities for the purpose of professional growth and skill enhancement.
Assess and manages behavioral health patients.
Provides a leadership role in behavioral health-related emergencies in the EC and inpatient hospital setting.
Providing psychiatric consultative services to inpatients at Cape Cod Hospital in conjunction with the Psychiatry Department.
Develops and manages a narcotic addiction program to better identify and treat patients in our community with issues of chronic opiate habituation.
Follows clinical and administrative policies and procedures.
Maintains patient rights and confidentiality.
Perform advanced diagnostic assessments to identify complex psychiatric and behavioral health conditions, informing individualized treatment plans.
Clearly summarize and communicate pertinent clinical findings in both verbal and written formats to support interdisciplinary care and accurate medical record documentation.
Provide comprehensive case management services, including care coordination, discharge planning, and connection to community resources.
Respond to psychiatric crises using evidence-based crisis intervention techniques to ensure patient and staff safety and stabilize acute situations.
Apply thorough knowledge of psychopharmacology to support medication management, including understanding indications, side effects, and potential interactions.
Conduct assessments for substance use disorders and implement appropriate treatment interventions based on current best practices in addiction medicine.
Performs other duties as assigned.
