Working collaboratively with physicians and healthcare teams, the APP performs assessments, procedures, and treatment planning for a wide range of pediatric conditions—ensuring access to quality care beyond traditional primary care hours.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
- Current Washington State licensure as an ARNP (NP) or PA-C with full prescriptive authority
- National certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), or PA-C
- BLS certification
- Excellent autonomy, decision-making, and patient-centered communication skills
Nice To Haves
- Clinical experience in pediatric urgent care, primary care, or emergency medicine preferred
Responsibilities
- Independently evaluate and treat pediatric patients presenting with non-emergent illnesses, minor injuries, infections, and other urgent concerns
- Perform clinical procedures appropriate to training and scope, such as wound care, splinting, abscess drainage, foreign body removal, and rapid testing
- Order and interpret diagnostics, including point-of-care labs and radiology, to guide clinical decisions
- Prescribe medications, treatments, and referrals per Washington State guidelines for independent APPs
- Educate patients and families about diagnoses, medications, follow-up care, and warning signs
- Document clinical encounters thoroughly and accurately in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Lead care coordination, including appropriate disposition planning and referrals to primary care or specialists
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, imaging staff, and front-desk personnel to support patient flow and care quality—without requiring supervisory oversight
- Engage in peer collaboration, clinical meetings, and case discussions that enhance practice quality, safety, and teamwork.
- Support institutional performance goals, including efforts related to population health, equity, quality measures, and safety protocols.
- Participate in clinical meetings and improvement initiatives, contributing to efforts that enhance patient outcomes and experience.
- Maintains license and appropriate continuing education.
- Adheres to MHS Attendance and Punctuality Policy and Procedure standards, and maintains reliable attendance
