About The Position

The Department of Pediatrics is seeking an acute care pediatric Nurse Practitioner to provide advanced practice health care services in the inpatient hospital setting. This role involves documentation of services, collaboration with colleagues and clinical director, supervision of assigned support staff, participation in quality assurance activities, and demonstrating a commitment to quality health care.

Requirements

  • PALS certification
  • PACNP-BC (Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner – Board Certified)
  • CPNP-AC (Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner – Acute Care)
  • Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON)
  • Licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in a nurse practitioner clinical area of specialization by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON)
  • Completion of a graduate level (or higher) nurse practitioner program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
  • No experience required

Responsibilities

  • Management of inpatient and intermediate care level pediatric medical and surgical conditions in the inpatient pediatrics and intermediate care Units
  • Patient evaluation, treatment plan development and implementation under the supervision of pediatric attending physicians.
  • Coordinating with other medical professionals and specialists as necessary under the supervision of clinic faculty.
  • Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests such as lab work and x-rays, and providing parent, and family education under the supervision of inpatient pediatric attending physicians
  • Updating medical records and completing progress notes on time.
  • Supports and assists with hospital and unit specific quality improvement projects.
  • Regular attendance at division, unit provider, and quality improvement meetings.
  • Excellent communication skills with patients and interprofessional members of the team.
