About The Position

Seeking an experienced Hematology/Oncology APRN to support our leukemia/lymphoma programs as well as assist with hospital procedures. This role is responsible for providing comprehensive care at an advanced practice level to pediatric patients with leukemia/lymphoma disorders through assessment, diagnosis, clinical management & treatment, collaboration, coordination, education, and research.

Requirements

  • Experienced Hematology/Oncology APRN
  • Ability to perform physical examinations and specialized procedures under the direction of a physician
  • Ability to obtain/interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests
  • Ability to chart all patient transactions in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Ability to write orders and record progress notes
  • Ability to formulate a family-centered health care plan in collaboration with other team members
  • Ability to document the plan in EMR
  • Ability to evaluate responses to interventions
  • Ability to utilize written guidelines/protocols for clinical decision making and management
  • Ability to write orders for medications, laboratory work, and diagnostic tests
  • Ability to respond to patient calls/questions promptly
  • Ability to generate letters of medical necessity and other documentation
  • Ability to assist with authorizations
  • Ability to provide clinical assistance in obtaining prior approval from insurance companies
  • Ability to adjust to fluctuating peaks in patient flow, acuity, and other operational demands

Responsibilities

  • Provides a broad range of nurse practitioner services to patients with leukemia and/or lymphoma under indirect supervision and working interdependently with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
  • Performs a variety of functions and technical procedures necessary for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and outcome evaluation.
  • Supports and directs in-office infusion treatments in collaboration with attending physicians.
  • Performs physical examinations and specialized procedures under the direction of a physician.
  • Obtains/interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests and communicates findings to families and the medical team.
  • Charts all patient transactions in accordance with policies and procedures; writes orders and records progress notes that will be reviewed and countersigned by supervising physician.
  • Supports physicians with hospital procedures, such as lumbar punctures, biopsies, etc.
  • Formulates a family-centered health care plan in collaboration with other team members and documents the plan in EMR in a concise, physician-targeted manner that facilitates patient adherence and outcome evaluation.
  • Evaluates responses to interventions and communicates these results to the family and team, modifying the plan of care as needed.
  • Utilizes written guidelines/protocols for clinical decision-making and management.
  • Writes orders for medications, laboratory work, and diagnostic tests.
  • Responds to patient calls/questions forwarded by the clinical team promptly and provides advice on clinical issues.
  • Generates letters of medical necessity, and other documentation as needed for patients.
  • Assists with authorizations as needed.
  • Provides clinical assistance to the team in obtaining prior approval from insurance companies for procedures when clinical information is required to complete the process.
  • Adjusts to fluctuating peaks in patient flow, acuity, and other operational demands while maintaining quality.
  • Communicates effectively with families in a way that recognizes their level of understanding, cultural belief systems, and ability to adhere to recommended treatment plans.
  • Maintains open lines of communication with team members via constructive, positive interactions to promote team harmony, effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Maintains other appropriate continuing education as needed to comply with federal regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
