About The Position

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will work collaboratively with fellow APPs, orthopedic residents, and faculty surgeons within the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation. This role will support the Adult Hip and Knee Arthroplasty team in an outpatient clinic setting. This requires delivery of collaborative care with the Adult Hip and Knee Arthroplasty team as well as other consulting services. This role requires someone who is organized, motivated, and very efficient. No weekends and no call with this position. The new University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty Campus opened in the Spring of 2025. This 469,000 square foot facility is the home to UI Health Care’s nationally recognized Orthopedics service line, offering comprehensive, coordinated, and accessible care across the outpatient, inpatient and surgical venues. These state-of-the-art clinical facilities will also include a full-service community imaging center, laboratory services, physical therapy, retail pharmacy, and emergency department as well as an array of support services. The facility has been designed to support a superior patient and staff experience; excellence across our patient care, teaching and research missions; convenient access to services; and engaging community partnerships. Requirements

  • Master’s degree required; MSN or DNP preferred.
  • Current Iowa RN license and ARNP licensure required.
  • National certification in an adult‑focused specialty required.
  • Must be licensed and certified to care for adult patient populations.
  • 3–5 years of patient care experience (may include clinical rotations or clinical practice).
  • Demonstrated experience or knowledge in orthopedic patient care.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Consistent timeliness and accuracy in documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in medical-surgical inpatient, surgical inpatient, orthopedic outpatient, or orthopedic surgical setting is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Outpatient clinical management: Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, obtain histories and physicals, order and interpret diagnostic tests, develop treatment plans, prescribe medications, and perform joint aspirations/injections. Return patient phone calls and MyChart messages.
  • Collaborative care: Work closely with the Adult Hip and Knee Arthroplasty team nurses, medical assistants, administrative assistants, residents and faculty surgeons as well as consulting services to support continuity of care across the outpatient setting
  • Documentation and quality improvement: Complete timely and accurate medical records, reports, and billing documentation. Participate in chart reviews, quality initiatives, and performance improvement committees to enhance patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
  • Education and professional development: Provide patient education and contribute to the learning of students and residents. Engage in ongoing professional development and support departmental research activities.
  • Team operations and leadership: Support compliance with policies and standards of care. Participate in committees, assist with process improvement projects, and help optimize service line operations. Provide coaching or feedback to team members as appropriate. Contribute to initiatives that improve patient outcomes, reduce complications, and enhance documentation accuracy.
