About The Position

The Division of Surgical Oncology is seeking a dynamic and patient-centered experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (APP) to join their busy, thriving, and expanding surgical oncology practice. The primary focus is breast care, but the APP will also manage patients with soft tissue malignancies, including sarcoma, and non-melanoma and melanoma skin cancer. Responsibilities include collaborating with a primary surgeon and a team of breast surgeons and APPs to evaluate and manage new surgical patients, coordinate complex perioperative and postoperative surgical care, and develop an independent survivorship clinic for patient cancer surveillance. The role also involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary oncologic team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care and participation in weekly tumor boards. The practice is primarily outpatient, treating the spectrum of breast disease, including cancer patients, high-risk patients, and those with benign breast disease. Clinics are located at the NCI-designated Hollings Cancer Center, MUSC Health East Mt. Pleasant, MUSC Health West Ashley, and MUSC Nexton. The MUSC Breast Oncology team is NAPBC certified. The ideal candidate is outgoing, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and energetic, wishing to support a high-volume clinical practice.

Requirements

Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program; and Currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant.
Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program; and Currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN with one of the following certifications: AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to the first day.

Nice To Haves

For APRN candidates, AGACNP/ACNP (Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner) certification is preferred.
At least 3 years of APP experience in Surgical Oncology is preferred.
New graduates or experienced providers with an interest in Surgical Oncology/Cancer care are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

Evaluate and manage new surgical patients in collaboration with a primary surgeon.
Coordinate complex perioperative and postoperative surgical care.
Develop an independent survivorship clinic for patient cancer surveillance.
Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary oncologic team to deliver top quality patient-centered care.
Participate in weekly tumor boards.
Treat the spectrum of breast disease, including cancer patients, high-risk for breast cancer patients, and benign breast disease.
Provide direct care to patients through comprehensive history taking and physical examinations.
Evaluate and treat patients based on history, physical examination, and diagnostic test results.
Document and bill for direct care provided.
Utilize current research and evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice.
Perform and participate in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
Participate in and support accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities.
Demonstrate responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
Potentially precept students enrolled as advanced practice provider students.
Facilitate the learning of other new team members.
Maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc., as required.
Actively participate in Tumor Boards.
Participate in Surgical Oncology Clinical trials.
Obtain surgical consents.
Travel to clinic sites in West Ashley, Mt. Pleasant, and Nexton, with possible expansion to other sites.
