About The Position

This is a full-time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant position focused on providing evidence-based outpatient treatment for a wide range of sleep, mood, and anxiety disorders. The role involves direct patient care, supervision of trainees, coordination of patient care, and participation in program activities such as journal clubs and case conferences. Opportunities are available for involvement in clinical research and teaching medical students, psychology interns, postdoctoral fellows, and psychiatric fellows. The successful candidate will collaborate within a multidisciplinary team comprising psychologists, psychiatrists, pulmonologists, trainees, social workers, clinicians, and scientists. Expertise in medication management is highly desirable for this position.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant
  • Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
  • APRN License Type/Certification: AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP) for adult patients (13 years to death), stable chronic disease state management or primary care setting
  • APRN License Type/Certification: FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner) for population foci across the life span
  • APRN License Type/Certification: PMHNP (Psychiatric Mental Health NP) for all ages or adult only psychiatric patient care (must check educational background)
  • Currently licensed (or eligible) in the state of South Carolina as a Physician Assistant by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners or as an PMHNP with the SC Board of Nursing
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); if not current, provider must enroll and have received certificate by start date
  • DHEC and DEA license applications must be submitted prior to first day

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one year of mental health provider experience as an Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • Expertise in medication management

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care to patients
  • Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations
  • Evaluates and treats based on history, mental status examination, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline
  • Initiates referrals to other health care providers, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician, when appropriate
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice
  • Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research, when appropriate
  • Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization
  • Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education
  • Potential to precept trainees at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider trainee; and facilitates the learning of other new team members
  • Maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law
  • Works to understand the needs of patients and their families, and assists with care planning and goal setting, working to resolve conflicts when they arise
  • Assumes responsibility for management of care for assigned patient caseload, establishing treatment plans with collaborating/supervising physician and monitoring treatment response and clinical practice
  • Monitor care when delivered, clinical expert, role model and teacher/preceptor for nurses, students, interns and residents
