About The Position

The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine is recruiting for an Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) to work full time on the inpatient acute care medical-surgical units at Shawn Jenkin’s Children’s Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina. The pediatric inpatient units include over 50 patient beds staffed by board-certified pediatric hospital medicine physicians, skilled nurses, respiratory therapists, clinical pharmacists, dietitians, child life specialists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, case managers and social workers.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN
  • Physician Assistant or APRN License Type/Certification: Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PCPNP/PNP): Pediatric patients (birth to age 21), stable chronic disease state management or primary care setting.
  • Physician Assistant or APRN License Type/Certification: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP): (birth to death) Stable chronic disease state management, primary care across the lifespan.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day.
  • Excellent clinical skills, experienced with efficient, direct patient care
  • Active listening, critical thinking and the ability to reflect a professional and caring persona for patients and families.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong commitment to quality improvement and evidence-based medicine

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric Acute Care NP (PACNP): Pediatric pts (birth to age 21), acutely ill or injured, potentially unstable or technologically dependent.
  • One year of Pediatric subspecialty experience with inpatient pediatric care and physical medicine & rehab medicine or pediatric neurology is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Direct patient care delivery on medical/surgical and rehabilitation units
  • Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations
  • Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline
  • Streamlines inpatient timely discharges
  • Assist in coordination of care between physicians, nurses and sub-specialty teams
  • Initiates referrals to other health care provides, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided in Epic electronic medical record
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice
  • Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research
  • Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization
  • Interaction with a diverse group of learners including medical students, residents, and fellows
  • Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in APRN or PA must maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law
  • Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members
