The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in Labor and Delivery is a full-time role within the AMG Highway 50 - Obstetrics/Gynecology department. This position is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and managing patient care, which includes ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, prescribing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, and developing treatment plans appropriate for the patient's age, acuity, and clinical condition. The role emphasizes evidence-based care, cost-effectiveness, and risk/benefit assessment. Key duties involve providing health promotion, disease prevention, and disease management counseling and education to patients and families. The practitioner works as part of an interdisciplinary team, seeking physician consultation or referrals when necessary and escalating care for emergent situations. Accurate and timely electronic medical record documentation, compliant coding and billing, and fostering clear communication among healthcare team members are essential. The role also involves performing office or hospital procedures as per specialty practice and granted privileges. Beyond direct patient care, the position requires participation in quality, safety, and peer review initiatives, organizational meetings, and the education and onboarding of new team members and students. Maintaining clinical and professional skills and adhering to productivity and quality metrics are also expected. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care, understanding growth and development principles across the lifespan to meet specific patient needs.
