Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants (Advanced Practice Providers - APPs) in the division of Hospital Medicine provide care for hospitalized patients at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital, and The Rehabilitation Center of St. Louis. APPs collaborate individually with physicians from the WashU Medicine Division of Hospital Medicine. APPs provide care for patients of varying complexity and occasionally in the event of a clinical deterioration. At all times, a hospitalist physician is available for consultation and involvement in patient care. No outpatient or ambulatory care is required. While working closely with division physicians, APPs will be expected to operate with substantial clinical autonomy. Candidates should be familiar with the provision of inpatient care and proficient in acute care medicine. Acute Care certification for Nurse Practitioners is not required, but is strongly preferred. Position provides primary and/or specialty nursing and/or medical care in a variety of settings; works under physician oversight as required by state regulation, and functions within the scope of practice defined by the specialty certification, BJH medical by-laws, and, where it exists, the collaborative practice agreement. The division has opportunities for day, evening, and night shifts. APPs are generally scheduled in 7 on/7 off rotations, Monday-Sunday, 7a-7p. Other opportunities for shift-based schedules are available. Base requirement is an average of fourteen (14) shifts per calendar month.
