Practice locations can include Duke Health’s three hospitals or over 140 primary care and specialty care clinics throughout North Carolina. We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider for Duke Gastroenterology in Raleigh, NC. The APP provides medical care to adult patients with liver conditions in general hepatology outpatient clinic. Duties may include but are not limited to those listed below and may include other outpatient procedures or services as deemed appropriate by the supervising physician. Current position would be predominantly outpatient clinic sessions at Duke Gastroenterology of Raleigh (MOB9).

Requirements

• Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
• Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
• BLS required.
• Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment.
• Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Nice To Haves

• 1-2 years of gastroenterology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Record the history of present illness, past medical, family and social history, perform physical examinations in both outpatient and hospital setting
• Establish and follow plan of care, when needed in conjunction with MD; Communicate regularly with referring inpatient team
• Prescribe appropriate medications to a specialty pharmacy that will handle prior authorization and other necessary paperwork; Order refills as needed
• Perform Fibroscan procedures
• Patient and family teaching
• Order appropriate labs, tests and procedures and follow up with patient as needed
• Coordinate care and refer to other medical professionals as needed
• Document clinic, telephone, and other patient encounters in the Epic (Maestro) system
• Review lab results in Maestro, communicate and interpret results
• Collaborate with HUB Triage Nurses regarding patient triage and return patients calls within 24-48 hours; Provide feedback regarding scheduling of urgent patient appointments
• Review outside records including clinic notes, hospital records, outside radiographs, lab, and other test results
• Collaborate with nursing staff to complete patient paperwork including medication pre-certifications for insurance companies, durable medical equipment requests, disability paperwork, and handicapped permit applications
• Attendance at GI Grand Rounds is expected. Participation in other divisional educational events is also encouraged
