About The Position

Mayo Clinic is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join their Emergency Medicine team at Saint Marys Hospital. This role involves caring for approximately 75,000 patients annually in a regional level 1 trauma center that also serves as a base for air and ground transportation programs. The position offers 24/7 practice coverage with shifts in acute care, triage, behavioral health, and the ED observation unit. As an independent provider, the NP/PA will collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals, providing comprehensive assessments, diagnoses, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, and patient education. The role also includes performing procedures such as laceration repair, incision and drainage, and lumbar punctures. The position benefits from being part of a teaching institution with opportunities for education and research, serving a diverse patient population common to academic centers and community hospitals. Mayo Clinic values the expertise of NPs/PAs in Emergency Medicine and has established an APP Emergency Medicine Fellowship to further support and train these professionals.

Requirements

  • Nurse Practitioner: Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Nurse Practitioner: Current Minnesota RN and APRN license and certification as a: Family Nurse Practitioner Certification (FNP) or Emergency Nurse Practitioner Certification (ENP).
  • Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice.
  • Registration with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) is required.
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS is required.
  • Candidates should apply with a resume and or CV, cover letter, and two letters of recommendation.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years as an experienced NP or PA in Emergency Medicine preferred.
  • Would consider new graduate from an NPPA Emergency Medicine Fellowship and/or Residency.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, ordering, conducting and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescription of pharmacological agents, and patient education.
  • Perform a variety of procedures including laceration repair, I&D, and lumbar puncture.
  • Serve as an independent provider, collaborating with physicians and working with a variety of other healthcare professionals.
  • Provide 24/7 practice coverage with shifts in acute care, triage, behavioral health, and the ED observation unit.
