About The Position

This position is for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join a supportive Advanced Practice Team within the Massachusetts General Brigham Cancer Institute in Boston, MA. This new program specializes in the care of patients with clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP). The role involves helping to lead the development of this APP-led ambulatory clinic, advancing care in a rapidly evolving clinical landscape. Responsibilities include leading interdisciplinary tumor boards, managing clinical operations, and identifying opportunities for clinic growth. The provider will join a multi-disciplinary team of experts from leukemia, bone marrow transplant, hematology, and early detection and diagnostics. The hematologic oncologic APP will provide direct care to outpatient patients in Boston, fostering collaboration with providers, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure continuity of care and disease management. The role includes performing patient assessments, monitoring for toxicities, assessing clinical responses, and providing direct and indirect patient care throughout the continuum of care. Collaboration with research team members for clinical trials, including screening, consenting, and managing patients, is also a key aspect. Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant required.
  • Registered Nurse [RN - MA License]
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse [APRN] [MA License] or Physician Assistant [MA License]
  • Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 Years Advanced Practice experience preferred
  • Prior hematology/oncology experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Epic and EMRs preferred.
  • Familiarity with clinical trials preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory setting.
  • Perform complete histories and physical examinations.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develop appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on findings.
  • Provide high quality and timely documentation, including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Perform bedside procedures as appropriate to the patient population.
  • Order medications and write prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Lead interdisciplinary tumor boards and manage clinical operations.
  • Seek out future opportunities for clinic growth.
  • Monitor for toxicities and assess clinical responses.
  • Care for patients throughout their continuum of care.
  • Foster collaboration with other professionals within the hospital and clinics.
  • Collaborate with research team members to develop and conduct clinical trials, including screening, consenting, and managing patients on trial.
