About The Position

Meritus Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join our General Surgery team, supporting both General and Thoracic Surgery. This role involves caring for patients throughout the surgical journey, from initial evaluation and diagnosis through surgical care and recovery. The position offers clinical autonomy, surgical experience, teamwork, and opportunities for professional growth within a collaborative, high-performing team environment. The Nurse Practitioner will be an integral part of the surgical service, collaborating with surgeons, APPs, nursing teams, and other healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional, patient-centered care. The role provides exposure to a broad range of General and Thoracic Surgery, allowing for the development of clinical expertise alongside experienced surgical specialists. Meritus Health is building a destination for exceptional clinical care, innovation, education, and professional growth, with expanding medical education programs including the Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine and residency programs.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for surgical patients
  • Provide comprehensive preoperative and postoperative patient management
  • Assist General and Thoracic Surgeons in the operating room
  • Participate in surgical procedures and scheduled OR block days
  • Perform patient assessments, consultations, and follow-up visits
  • Manage postoperative care and monitor patients for complications
  • Conduct hospital rounds and coordinate ongoing patient care
  • Educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures, treatment plans, and recovery
  • Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless transitions of care
  • Participate in call coverage as part of the surgical team
  • Contribute to the continued growth and development of the General and Thoracic Surgery service
