About The Position

To improve the quality, efficiency, and continuity of diabetes and endocrine care across inpatient and outpatient settings—particularly for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) patients—through the addition of a dedicated Nurse Practitioner (NP).

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with Massachusetts licensure and certification to practice in an expanded role.
  • Physician Assistant licensure.
  • Massachusetts/Federal narcotic license.
  • Three years of clinical experience in an inpatient or outpatient setting.
  • Ability to gather and interpret data for the diagnosis and management of medical conditions.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with physician and administrative input as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Manage inpatient diabetes consults (new and follow-up), prioritizing DFCI patients
  • Assist with complex glycemic management (e.g., steroids, insulin initiation)
  • Evaluate and manage inpatient hypercalcemia consults, including workup coordination, IV bisphosphonate initiation, and triage of underlying etiology
  • Collaborate closely with endocrinology attending and oncology teams
  • Support discharge planning (education, insulin teaching, CGM when appropriate)
  • Facilitate transitions to outpatient endocrine care
  • Provide follow-up for recently discharged patients, including those treated for hypercalcemia
  • Manage diabetes (type 1, type 2, steroid-induced)
  • Support care for endocrine conditions (thyroid, adrenal, pituitary, immunotherapy-related)
  • Improve access by reducing new patient and follow-up wait times
  • Titrate medications and monitor CGM data
