About The Position

Oak Valley Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) for the Emergency Department (ED) on a full-time basis. This role involves working within the full scope of practice as outlined by the Regulated Health Professions Act and in accordance with CNO standards, guidelines, and relevant laws. The NP will provide direct patient care, consultation, and education to patients and families in the ED. Responsibilities include ordering and interpreting diagnostics, developing treatment plans, and performing interventions. The NP will work independently and collaboratively with medical and nursing staff, and engage in research and Quality Improvement projects as appropriate. Specific role and practice responsibilities will be determined based on operational needs. There is an exciting new opportunity for a Provider in Triage role, where the NP will independently order diagnostic tests and expedite patient assessments from the point of arrival, accelerating time to care and impacting patient flow and outcomes. This is an opportunity for a motivated NP to lead innovation at the front door of emergency care.

Requirements

Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Nurse Practitioner (NP).
Knowledge, skills and clinical competence required to assess and manage patients across the lifespan, including pediatric and adult patients, in the Emergency Department.
Currently Registered or eligible for licensure in good standing as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
Current Certificate of competence from the CNO as RN (EC) - Nurse Practitioner-Primary Health Care (PHCNP).
BScN Required.
BCLS required.
Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in the Emergency Department is required.
Experience working with patients of all ages.
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Critical thinking.
In-depth knowledge of the legislation and guidelines that govern NP practice within the Emergency Department setting.
Must be willing to work flexible hours and willingness to pivot to support patient care needs in the Emergency Department.
Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI).

Nice To Haves

Candidates who previously held a Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner (PHCNP) certificate, or an Adult or Pediatric NP certificate, are eligible to apply, provided they can demonstrate the competencies and experience required for the role.
Previous Primary Health Care NP preparation and/or relevant Emergency Department NP experience is considered an asset.
ACLS preferred.
Successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner Program from a recognized University, Masters level preferred.
Current membership with the RNAO and the NPAO is an asset.
Previous experience with suturing, wound care, and special procedures such as casting are considered an asset.

Responsibilities

Work within their full scope of practice as outlined by the Regulated Health Professions Act and practice in accordance with the CNO standards, guidelines, and relevant laws.
Provide direct patient care, consultation and education to patients and families in the ED.
Order and interpret diagnostics, develop treatment plans, and perform interventions.
Work independently and in collaboration with medical and nursing staff.
Engage in research and Quality Improvement projects as appropriate.
Act as a dedicated provider in triage, independently ordering diagnostic tests and expediting patient assessments.
Contribute to shaping a new model of care in the ED.
Demonstrate strong leadership and clinical skills.
Demonstrate evidence of Interprofessional collaboration with Physicians, nurses and other allied health professionals.
Be self-directed in clinical practice particularly in the areas of assessment, intervention/therapeutics and diagnosis.
Work in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and related Hospital policies.
Maintain good attendance and performance records.
Take all reasonable precautions and work in compliance with organization related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required.
