About The Position

This role involves assisting attending physicians in the care and management of patients across various hospital settings, including inpatient units, the Emergency Department, clinics, and Intensive Care Units (ICUs). Responsibilities include making patient rounds, contributing to daily care decisions, writing orders, interacting with consultants, and coordinating diagnostic tests and procedures. The position requires frequent bedside visits to assess patient status and direct care. In the Emergency Department, the role supports physicians in comprehensive medical care. In clinics, it involves providing diagnostic and therapeutic healthcare, including taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, coordinating tests, prescribing medications, and educating patients. The role may also include sharing call hours, phone coverage, and seeing admitted patients. Specific assignments may require an Acute Care ARNP or PA, and certain specialties prefer or require specific experience and certifications like PA-C or NNP.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Must meet requirements set forth by the Medical Staff Office to obtain and retain privileges to practice as a Physician Assistant within UF Health Shands Hospital and/or the Shands UF Healthcare Network, as applicable.
  • PA-C required for Adult ICUs.
  • PA-C required for Emergency Medicine.
  • PA-C required for Surgical/Operative Adult.
  • PA-C required for Adult Clinic/Primary Care.
  • PA-C required for Pediatric Clinic/Primary Care.
  • PA-C required for Psychology/Psychiatry.
  • Current and clear license (or eligible to be licensed) as a Physician Assistant (PA) in the State of Florida.
  • BLS is required.

Nice To Haves

  • ICU Experience preferred.
  • Emergency Medicine Experience preferred.
  • NICU experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the attending physician in the care and management of patients on Inpatient units.
  • Makes patient rounds, contributes to decisions for daily care, writes orders, and interacts with consultants.
  • Facilitates and coordinates the scheduling of therapeutic and diagnostic tests and procedures.
  • Makes frequent bedside visits to assess the status of patients and direct care accordingly.
  • May see patients in the clinic environment.
  • Assists Emergency Department physicians in the comprehensive medical care of the patient.
  • Provides diagnostic and therapeutic health care coverage for patients in a clinic setting.
  • Takes medical histories, performs physical examinations, coordinates lab tests and diagnostic studies.
  • Prescribes medications and provides assistance to the patient regarding a plan of treatment and education.
  • May include sharing call hours, phone coverage, and seeing admitted patients within the hospital.
  • Assists the attending ICU physician in the care and management of patients.
