About The Position

This role involves reviewing, organizing, analyzing, and summarizing complex medical records for various litigation matters, including personal injury, medical malpractice, product liability, and mass tort cases. The Nurse Paralegal will prepare detailed medical chronologies, treatment timelines, provider summaries, and medical expense summaries to aid attorneys in case evaluation and litigation strategy. Key responsibilities include identifying significant medical events, diagnoses, procedures, medications, and causation issues within medical records, as well as managing the retrieval and organization of all related healthcare documentation. The position also supports expert witness identification, deposition and trial preparation, and ensures the confidentiality of protected health information.

  • Bachelor’s degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Active or former Registered Nurse (RN) license preferred.
  • Three to seven years of clinical nursing experience and/or legal nurse consulting experience preferred.
  • Experience coordinating medical record retrieval and working with healthcare providers preferred.
  • Experience preparing medical chronologies, treatment summaries, and damages analyses.

Responsibilities

  • Review, organize, analyze, and summarize complex medical records for litigation matters, including personal injury, medical malpractice, product liability, and mass tort cases.
  • Prepare detailed medical chronologies, treatment timelines, provider summaries, and medical expense summaries to assist attorneys with case evaluation and litigation strategy.
  • Identify significant medical events, diagnoses, procedures, medications, pre-existing conditions, and causation issues within medical records.
  • Request, track, receive, organize, and maintain medical records, billing records, imaging, and other healthcare documentation from providers and facilities.
  • Prepare concise written summaries of medical records, highlighting key facts, treatment progression, and damages.
  • Assist attorneys in identifying expert witnesses and coordinating communications with medical experts and consultants.
  • Support deposition and trial preparation by organizing exhibits, preparing witness notebooks, and summarizing deposition testimony related to medical issues.
  • Coordinate medical record retrieval, follow-up, indexing, coding, scanning, and production.
  • Research medical terminology, procedures, diagnoses, and treatment protocols as needed.
  • Maintain organized electronic and physical case files while ensuring confidentiality of protected health information.
  • Collaborate with team members and clients to support efficient case management.
  • Assist with document review, discovery responses, and other litigation support as assigned.
