Responsibilities

  • Serves as patient and family advocate.
  • Provide continued education and support for all newly diagnosed pediatric oncology patients and their families. Assists in education of the patient/family to understand disease process and care map.
  • Coordination of care; ensure quality patient care enabling the family to focus on their child, the patient. This includes but is not limited to planning and scheduling diagnostic and interval imaging, assessments, labs, consults, family meetings and appointments.
  • Facilitate communication between the patient/family with interdisciplinary and interdepartmental teams.
  • Point of contact for all referrals, second opinions, handling of lab specimens and send-outs, and imaging within the hospital and with collaborating facilities as needed.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of appointments to expedite the plan of care and to promote continuity of care.
  • Will maintain a professional role that will continue to adapt and incorporate new evidence-based practice methods to better support patient and family needs.
  • Assist with medication prior authorizations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Will assist with miscellaneous tasks that arise as needed within the Valerie Center to support safe and quality patient care, as well as workflow.
